General Summary
Develop a broad understanding and application of the automotive industry emissions’ standards and continually strive for improvements and excellence in all facets of the business. Execute and implement quality activities in compliance with company goals. Ensure compliance of regulations, policies, and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain all aspects of running a vehicle emissions lab, including quality control operations, system backups, analytical repairs, ordering and inventory of materials and consumables such as Test Fuel, Test Gases, spare parts, basic preventative maintenance, and service contracts.
- Support Emissions testing of KAGA Production and In-Service vehicles (Emissions Mileage Accumulation Vehicles) at set test mileage, analyze data, and review all reports generated. Ensure all reports are sent to KMC for data collection and review and communicate with KMC, HATCI, SQE and Production concerning any emissions testing failures.
- Support OBD/Diagnostics testing and communicate with KMC concerning any OBD testing failures. analyze data, and review all reports generated. Ensure all reports are sent to KMC for data collection and review and communicate with KMC and SQE any OBD/diagnostic testing failures.
- Emission Test and OBD Database management to ensure all needed paper and soft copies are filed and held on-site in a secure method that conforms to policy guidelines, including EPA and CARB certs. Drive continuous OBD testing improvement activities, continue to enhance testing capabilities.
- EO Test Coordinator for OBD and Emissions related part trials, ensure all tests are conducted and reported to appropriate departments.
- Support quarterly vehicle chassis dynamometer road load testing, keep database of data, and ensure any abnormalities that are statistically significant are addressed.
- Maintain a full statistical control database for all emission gas analyzers to ensure the process is capable and any abnormalities are investigated, and corrective actions are taken.
- Participate and assist in the development and maintenance of the Global Emission Lab Correlation Program that includes all HKMC North American labs, along with HKMC Labs in Korea.

Qualifications & Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field along with two (2) to five (5) years of progressive experience in the emissions field in a manufacturing environment preferably within the automotive industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced technical based degree would be a plus.
- Ability to independently run emission test, working knowledge of needed equipment (chassis dynamometer and emission test analyzer bench system, and OBD equipment).
- Understand and apply automotive standards, especially Emissions and OBDII (On Board Diagnostics II).
- Understand advanced product quality planning and how it relates to developmental testing.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work daily, weekend and holiday overtime hours and off-shift hours as needed.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in both exercising company decisions and carrying out essential job duties that affect efficient business operations and their objectives, policies, practices, and conditions.
Specialized Skills and Knowledge Required
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
- Experience with SAP system preferred.
- Knowledge to analyze emissions testing data and formulate needed improvement activities.
- Knowledge to analyze OBD testing data and formulate needed improvement activities
- Ability to use, service and maintain all equipment used in an emission lab setting, including chassis dynamometer, dilution air refinement system, emission analyzer bench.
- Ability to use all major testing equipment that can be used for testing On Board Vehicle Diagnostic systems such as: Inca based software, wave form generator, chassis dynamometer, generic and specific vehicle scanners, multi-meters, DC power supplies, mis-fire generators, etc.
- Ability to read and use vehicle calibration guides would be a plus
- Ability to read electrical wiring schematics and build custom wire harnesses for testing would be a plus.
- Knowledge and experience with OBD II Test equipment and diagnostics ability of the basic equipment.
- Very good overall knowledge of vehicle powertrain and drivetrain system to help in analyzing failures.
- Experience with Emissions Testing and reporting to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and CARB (California Air Resource Board).
