General Summary
Support current production in maintaining and improving: Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Cost. Also, support new model activity that may include new equipment installation, trials, and vehicle or process verification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead daily activities to improve Weld shop issues concerning Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Cost (Reduction).
- Create clear concise technical reports for Executive Management weekly regarding Body Accuracy, Gap/Flush, Water Leaks, First Time Through Quality, Quality DPU, Torque Reports, Welding Destruct (dependent on responsible area assigned, not all). We should also utilize these reports to drive improvement activities.
- Perform part gauging (utilizing CMM, Portable Measurement Equipment/ Laser tracker, etc.) for both Welding Parts and GA trim parts and the relationship between the two to help resolve issues. Utilize measurement equipment for maintaining equipment accuracy for responsible area.
- Based on area assigned. Responsible for maintaining Weld shop (& GA shop) FTTQ and DPU by adjusting BC Line fitting equipment, improving Body or Moving Part Accuracy via equipment adjustments. This is also based on responsible area. Responsible for improving Paint FTTQ and DPU by reviewing quality concerns and improving Hem Sealer position/size, Body Panel Reinforcement Sealer thickness, Mastic position/size. Responsible for improving Weld Quality via destruct report analysis, Offline Pry Check and Ultrasonic Inspection records. Preparing and improving the Weld Schedule and managing the Auto Tip Dresser quality status, exchange, and rebuild/ordering.
- Create & maintain ISO 9001 documentation such as Control Plans, PFMEA’s, & Process Flow Maps. Updating these documents for new Model items introduced or equipment overhaul/changes.
- Responsible for investigating and improving customer issues such as body fits, squeak and rattle issues, surface, welding, part fit, etc. based on responsible area.
- Lead Cross Functional Teams and other Problem Solving Teams for difficult plant wide issues.

Qualifications & Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field along with two (2) to five (5) years of progressive experience in the Weld field in a manufacturing environment preferably within the automotive industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Teamwork oriented and flexible.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with effective follow up, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate good general technical background, including data collection, analysis and problem solving skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in both exercising company decisions and carrying out essential job duties that affect efficient business operations and its objectives, policies, practices, and conditions.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge Required
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
- Experience with SAP system preferred.
- Knowledge of welding shop process preferred.
- AutoCAD experience.
