General Summary
The Data Scientist Manager will play an important role in managing and executing data analysis for Kia North America’s regional subsidiaries (KUS/KCA/KaGA/KMX). A future-driven automotive company, Kia has access to vast and diverse datasets and are excited to fill this position with an individual that can derive business improvements and insight from this data. Strong applicants for this role will have statistics, machine learning, and computer science skills to leverage high-performance compute clusters as well as perform reproducible data analysis at scale. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1st Priority - 30%
Managing Data Science, Data Engineering, and Big Data Platform
- Managing small project teams to develop, execute and complete assignments.
- Advising 4 direct reports (Data Scientists and Data Engineer) on projects as needed and help resolve issues with project or task completion. Support direct reports’ project progress with “client” leadership, by suggesting how to resolve or escalating any issues. Support direct reports with questions related to data analysis.
- Organizing team roles and evaluating employee performance.
- Improve Big Data Analysis department processes and systems. Documenting operational tasks and reporting to upper-level management.
- Develops growth opportunities for direct reports.
- Performing employee reviews and assessments and meeting regularly with direct reports.
2nd Priority - 20%
Data Wrangling and Analysis
- Assess the accuracy of new data sources.
- Understand the relationship between the data and the business process.
- Preprocess structured and unstructured data.
- Analyze large amounts of data to discover trends and patterns.
- Build prediction and classification models.
- Coordinate with different functional teams for feature engineering
3rd Priority - 20%
Assess, Visualize and Improve Analysis
- Test and continuously improve the accuracy of statistical and machine learning models.
- Present information using Python and/or dashboards.
- Simplify and explain complex stats in an intuitive manner.
- Continuously monitor and validate production analysis results.
4th Priority - 20%
Deploy Analysis Results
- Collaborate with IT Team to deploy analysis results.
- Build REST APIs for data and analysis result consumption.
- Assist the IT system developers to deploy analysis as a service.
5th Priority - 10%
Clear Documentation, VCS, and Reproducible Analysis
- Use git within Gitlab.
- Create conda, venv, etc to isolate project dependencies and requirements.
- Track model performance and hyperparameter configurations with mlflow
- Track data versioning with dvc
Qualifications/Education
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field of technology required.
- Certification(s) in data analysis field is highly desirable.
Job Requirement
Overall Related Experience:
- Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages (SQL, Python)
- Experience with Dask; dask-ml and dask.DataFrames
- Experience using statistics, machine learning and deep learning algorithms
- Experience visualizing data using visualization tools (Power BI, MicroStrategy, Tableau etc.)
Directly Related Experience:
- 5+ years of data analysis or related technical experience required
- Experience data analysis and engineering projects as a project manager
- Prior people management experience preferred
- Experience using Hadoop echo system (Hadoop, Hive, Impala and Spark etc.)
Specialized Skills and Knowledge Required
- Data analysis, engineering, IT project management
- Experience using statistical computer languages (Python, SQL etc.) to handle data
- Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques including deep learning for computer vision and graph neural networks
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques
- Knowledge and experience with NLP (natural language processing)
- Social network analysis
- Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: Python, SQL, Docker, Javascript/Typescript
- Understanding big data analysis techniques: Map/Reduce, Hadoop echo system, Spark etc.
- Strong problem-solving skills based on data analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.

Pay Range
$105,533 - $146,709
Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
