General Summary

The Manager, Tax will be responsible for (1) overseeing income tax compliance and indirect tax compliance (e.g., sales & use tax, property tax, etc.), (2) assessing tariffs impact on transfer pricing and developing strategies to minimize tax liability, (3) monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments and changes and analyzing tax implications, (4) continuously assessing and making business/process improvement recommendations and collaborate with other business units, (5) providing mentoring and career guidance for the tax team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1st Priority - 30%

  • Oversee corporate federal and state income and franchise tax return preparation and review processes. 
  • Oversee indirect tax return preparation and review processes, including sales and use tax returns, gross receipts tax returns, property tax returns, etc. 
  • Review tax provision calculations and required tax footnotes to the financial statements, including the uncertain tax positions and valuation allowance. 
  • Coordinate with external advisors to resolve complex tax issues and ensure adherence to tax and financial reporting requirements.
  • Manage tax audits and voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), if necessary, and implement the process to adhere the audit results.
  • Review global tax planning and managerial reporting required by Kia HQ, including Pillar 2 Global Minimum Tax, etc.

2nd Priority - 20%

  • Assess tariffs impact on transfer pricing strategies and necessitating adjustments to intercompany pricing models to optimize tax efficiency and mitigate tax risks via various operational strategies. 
  • Analyze financial data to ensure that the arm’s length principle of transfer pricing requirements is met.
  • Manage the company’s APA process. Partner with internal/external resources to prepare/review transfer pricing documentation and intercompany agreements. 
  • Ensure adherence to local and global major transfer pricing developments and reporting requirements. 
  • Liaise with Kia HQ and regional tax teams to ensure cohesive tax strategies. 

3rd Priority - 20%

  • Monitor changes in U.S. and global legislative and regulatory tax law developments (e.g., H.R.1 - OBBBA, Pillar 2 Global Minimum Tax, etc.), assess the impact on the company and ensure timely implementation of necessary changes.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities to optimize the overall tax profile/cash flows and minimize the tax risks. 
  • Conduct research on complex tax issues, interpret applicable laws, and provide recommendations for compliance or tax-saving opportunities.
  • Manage tax planning and forecast, including timely communication to Treasury and Kia HQ. 

4th Priority - 15%

  • Review operational effectiveness of the tax department and all aspects of the tax process and controls.
  • Identify and implement process improvement for various tax workflows, including automation and technology implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline tax preparation processes to increase efficiency and reduce compliance risks.
  • Work with the finance and IT teams to implement tax technology solutions and ensure accurate data integration for tax reporting.

5th Priority - 15%

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members, fostering professional development and enhancing team performance.
  • Serve as a technical resource on tax matters and advise other business units on various tax questions and issues that arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications/Education

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field of study required. 
  • Advanced degree (Masters of Tax, JD and/or LLM) preferred.
     

Job Requirement

Directly Related Experience:

  • 7-8 years of work experience in large multi-national corporations and/or Big 4 or large public accounting firm.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws, including those applicable to consolidated/combined returns.
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-state tax issues and apportionment rules.
  • Extensive knowledge of income tax provision calculations. 
  • Solid understanding and experience with tax compliance, tax planning, tax analysis, and tax research.
  • Proficient in tax preparation and research software (e.g., OneSource, SOVOS, Avalara, Vertex, etc.)

Overall Related Experience:

  • Experience with SAP.
  • Automotive industry experience preferred.

Pay Range

$123,279 - $177,697 

Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
