General Summary

Under the supervision of the Sr. Service Technical Training Manager, the Instructional Designer designs, develops, and evaluates performance-based technical training curriculum to ensure Kia dealership technicians have the skills and knowledge to effectively service, diagnose, and repair Kia vehicles.

Assess technician needs through stakeholder input, Key Performance Indicators, and new systems and technology to identify gaps in skills and knowledge. Develop performance objectives, learning solutions, and delivery strategies to improve performance and support company goals.

Collaborate with Kia technical training instructors and other subject matter experts to develop classroom, video, and web-based training solutions. Deliverables may include classroom materials, job aids, hands-on activities, and performance assessments to verify skill and knowledge transfer.

Validate the technical accuracy of course content. Conduct pilot courses to ensure training achieves learning objectives. Conduct train-the-trainer sessions to enable instructors to deliver training as designed. After training launch, maintain courses with corrections and revisions.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1st Priority - 65%

Develop self-study and/or instructor-led performance-based technical training curriculum using classroom, video, and web-delivered mediums to improve the skills, knowledge, and job performance of Kia dealership technicians.

2nd Priority - 15%

Conduct needs assessments by analyzing KPIs, stakeholder feedback, and technician skills to identify training deficiencies; design engaging and learner-centered training solutions to improve job performance.

3rd Priority - 5%

Write RFPs and lead the vendor review and selection process. Coordinate purchase requisitions, contracts, invoicing, and reconciliation, and lead vendors in the production and implementation of training courses. Launch new courses in the Learning Management System (LMS).

4th Priority - 5%

Conduct pilot courses to validate course content and effectiveness, and conduct train-the-trainer sessions to enable instructors to deliver training as designed.

5th Priority - 5%

Gain approval to source tools, equipment, parts, supplies, and other resources required to support training delivery. Coordinate shipment and delivery.

Qualifications/Education

  • BA/BS degree in automotive technology or education-related area, or strong language arts and equivalent job experience
  • ASE Certification preferred

Job Requirement

Overall Related Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of automotive technical training delivery, training development, technical writing, or web-based training development experience
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with performance-based training and curriculum design preferred
  • OEM automotive technical experience is a plus

Directly Related Experience:

  • Experience as an automotive technician, preferably at the dealership level

Position Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required domestically and/or internationally 
  • May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours as required by the job, including weekends or holidays
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Must have hands-on automotive technical/mechanical aptitude

Pay Range

$74,859.00 ~$100,227.00

Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
